Ryan is devout believer in the importance of music journalism. He thinks it is a necessary asset to an industry designed against the little guy--underexposed/self-made musicians, bedroom songwriters, anachronistic genres and the like. Ryan also sees the importance of preserving past ideals and virtues of substance, and ensuring they aren't lost to transient trends and sheer topicality. He is sad the Boston Phoenix is no longer with us, and hopes ultimately to write for a publication with a similar-minded alternative bent.
