Northeastern U. cheerleaders hit the mat in hopes of becoming national champs

With Nationals months away, these Northeastern University cheerleaders are hoping to regain their 2002 National Grand Champion title.

Under the leadership of  coach Shayne Simahk, these Huskies are tweaking their show-stopping stunts and pyramids. But split feelings and nerves for competition quickly got in the way as the Huskies debated whether to compete in the advance or intermediate level.

These levels are determined by skills and include certain restrictions by the National Cheerleader Association. The competition is held every year around April in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The competition includes colleges from around the United States. The competing schools are  broken up into groups of all-girl, small co-ed (male and female) and large co-ed sections. However, the Huskies have not yey decided what level they will compete.
